All kinds of mind, knowledge and perception

The world seems to be going towards a reality where people have to be and/or become precisely what the society expects of them if they have any hope of living beyond basic needs. Living in western society is becoming more and more expensive and the states are no longer spending money on anything beyond what they consider fundamental for most people (except when the decision makers benefit themselves, but that's a whole other discussion). The thing is, in a world where only the regular people, the ones considered normal, the ones who need nothing special to thrive can really thrive, humanity as a whole won't. People with different kinds of perception, knowledge, minds will not only be put aside, they will also stop contributing to progress. The two following TED talks illustrate this very well. Daniel Tammet and Temple Grandin are two people I am glad the world allowed to grow and belong, not only for their own sake but for what they give us all. Daniel Tammet's talk will awe just about anyone while showing how a synaesthetic mind works. Temple Grandin's goes more to the point on what I've been talking about. This lady even has a film done about her, Temple Grandin, which I haven't yet seen but am now quite interested in. The world should pay attention if it expects to survive itself.
